What High-Altitude Sun Does to a Garage Door
The single most distinctive thing about garage doors in Pueblo is UV exposure. It is not dramatic like a hailstorm, but over years it does more cumulative damage.
The mechanism
Ultraviolet light breaks down the polymer chains in rubber and nylon. The rubber hardens, loses elasticity and eventually cracks; nylon rollers go brittle and start to chip rather than wear smoothly.
What you will notice first
A bottom seal that no longer springs back when you press it. Then daylight visible along the bottom edge of a closed door. Then dust and water on the garage floor after a storm.
West and south-facing doors
These take the worst of it. If you have two doors on the same house and one is failing faster, orientation is usually why.
What actually helps
Replace seals on a schedule rather than waiting for failure, and specify sealed nylon rollers with proper bearings rather than the plastic builder-grade type. On a new door, a lighter colour runs cooler and ages slower.
